24 Oct 2016

Singapore, 24 October 2016 – Ricoh Asia Pacific Pte Ltd organized the annual tree planting event at Fort Canning Park on October 22, 2016. This event marked the twelfth year of Ricoh participating in ‘Clean and Green Singapore’ initiative, co-organized by the National Environment Agency (NEA), Community Development Councils (CDCs), Public Utilities Board (PUB) and National Parks Board (NParks) for the community.

Back in October 2014, Ricoh planted many types of banana trees to complete the park’s Banana Trail. Ricoh staffs are happy to be back to the area and witnessed the fruit of their labor two years ago.

“The Spice Garden at Fort Canning Park is Singapore's first experimental and botanical garden that was established in 1822 by Sir Stamford Raffles, the "founder" of Singapore. It has over 100 varieties of plants and trees lining its trails which give insight to the culture and traditions of the people where local spices & herbs are extensively used for traditional food and healing remedies in South East Asia. Today, we are honored to be back to extend Ricoh greenery effort at Spice Garden, and also happy to revisit the banana trees to witness the fruit of labor which Ricoh has planted 2 years ago, back in October 2014.” said Mr. Kaz Goto, Managing Director of Ricoh Asia Pacific.

Ricoh has planted several different types of trees during this event, such as Pomelo tree (Citrus maxima), Malay Gooseberry tree (Phyllanthus acidus) and Chiku tree (Manilkara zapota), and other species at the area of Spice Garden and The Archeological Dig Exhibition of Fort Canning Park. Ricoh employees not only got the opportunity to learn more about the local tree species and plant breed, their children also enjoyed its ecological craft workshop.

Ricoh has been committed to sustainable environmental management since 1970s. This commitment is put into practice throughout the product life cycle from product design, production, marketing activities and customer services to end-of-life product. With its concept of "value-creating CSR", Ricoh conducts collaborative activities with stakeholders to become an integral part of the solutions for social issues.
